The Old Testament does not merely anticipate a coming Messiah; it gives clear, detailed signposts that find their perfect fulfillment in Jesus Christ. These Prophecies strengthen Faith by revealing God’s sovereign plan of Redemption, accomplished in Christ.
*Prophecies Concerning His Death*
The suffering and death of Jesus were foretold centuries before the Cross. Isaiah described a Servant who would be rejected, pierced, and crushed for the sins of others (Isaiah 53:3–6). David prophetically spoke of crucifixion-like suffering, long before crucifixion was practiced, saying, “They pierced my hands and my feet” (Psalm 22:16), and that lots would be cast for His Garments (Psalm 22:18). Zechariah also foretold that the Messiah would be betrayed for thirty pieces of silver (Zechariah 11:12–13), fulfilled in Judas’ betrayal (Matthew 26:14–15).
*Prophecies Concerning His Resurrection*
Death was not the end. The Scriptures declared that the Holy One would not remain in the grave. David prophesied, “You will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your Faithful One see decay” (Psalm 16:10). Isaiah affirmed that after suffering, the Messiah would see the Light of life and be satisfied (Isaiah 53:10–11). Jesus Himself referenced Jonah’s three days in the fish as a sign of His resurrection (Jonah 1:17; Matthew 12:39–40).
Together, these fulfilled prophecies testify that Jesus is the promised Christ—crucified for our sins and raised for our Justification (Romans 4:25).
